Senator Dorinda Cox was born in Kojonup, Western Australia and is a Yamatji Noongar and proud mother of two. She has a strong record of tirelessly working for social and environmental justice in her community, locally, nationally and globally. She has over 20 years’ experience working in government and non-government sectors and has made significant contributions to policy and advocacy in the are of domestic violence, child protection and First Nations Justice. She was appointed Australian Greens Senator for Western Australia in 2021, making her the first ever First Nations female Senator for Western Australi Senator Cox is especially passionate about being a strong advocate for First Nations people and violence prevention for First Nations women and children. She is the Australian Greens portfolio holder and spokesperson for First Nations, Resources, Trade, Tourism, and North Australia and is the driving force behind the Senate inquiries such as Missing and Murdered First Nations Women and Children, Northern Territory Food, Energy and Water Insecurity and Measuring Outcomes for First Nations Communities. Senator Cox has extensive experience in domestic violence prevention, intially starting her career as a cadet with the Western Australia Police in 1994 and then going on to become an Aboriginal Police Liaison Officer, specialising in fam violence and sexual assault. Her family has sadly experienced five generations of child removal in her matriarch line.
