Taryn Ruska-Fisher
Community Justice worker
Minjerribah Moorgumpin Elders in Council (MMEIC)
Goenpul man from North Stradbroke Island, Taryn Ruska-Fisher is the second oldest of 11 children. He also has ties to Yuggera, Nunukul, Agwamin and Gamilaroi tribes through his grandparents.
He began a school-based carpentry apprenticeship and became qualified in 2019. During this time, he won the Southeast Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student of the Year, Redlands School Based Apprentice of The Year and was a finalist for the Southeast Region Indigenous School-based Apprentice of the Year.
After leaving the building industry he transitioned to a Social and Emotional Wellbeing role at the local Aboriginal medical service, followed by a Program Facilitator role with Deadly Choices. It’s in these roles he found a passion for community work.
Through his current role as Community Justice Worker for the Minjerribah Moorgumpin Elders-in-Council's Justice Reinvestment team he hopes to create a future where his people no longer struggle and achieve justice outcomes.
